Episode Review : A Name Written In Water

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Well guys some time back I was just read a review about the movie Afterlife and it reminded me of one of my most watched television shows by the same name. With no news about the show that ended nearly two years back, I just decided to review the highest ranked episode of the series. Well it turned out to be the 8th episode of the second season which was aired on 11th November 2006. I still remember rushing back from a party hosted by a friend, just to watch this episode, which was also the final episode of the season as well as the series. The episode got great reviews form both critics as well as general public and was the most watched episode of the series. I still feel tempted and watch the episode many times over.

The episode begins with Robert being in comma in the hospital. Alison on hearing the news, dashes off to see him. However when she reaches the hospital Jude is already there and is not at all happy to see Alison. While waiting in the hospital, for Robert to recover, Alison comes across a strange nurse making the rounds of the corridors and comes to know from the workers that she is rumored to be there at the hospital whenever somebody is about to die. Finally Robert dies without revealing his love for Alison who is also not able to confess her love for him. The episode was really an emotional rollercoaster and bought me to tears many times. It highlighted the fears and love of the two leading characters as well as their irony of not being able to confess their love to each other. It definitely stands out and deserves to be the best episode of the series.

‘Afterlife’ season 1 Review

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Hi guys… as there’re no updates on ‘Afterlife’, so I decided to review the first season of series. Let’s go ahead to review all the 6 episodes of first season. Season was premiered on September 24, 2005 and the season opener was entitled ‘More Than Meets the Eye’. In the beginning of the first season, we see that psychic medium specialist Robert Bridge takes his students to clairvoyance evening and meets Alison Mundy. However, Robert is skeptical about her abilities, but he decides to study her when one Alison’s readings provokes an adverse reaction is one of Robert’s students. But, Robert is completely fuddled when Alison claims to see the spirit of his dead son, Josh, who was killed in a car accident, two years earlier.

Second episode of first season was entitled ‘Lower Than Bones’. In this episode, an eight year old gal goes missing and police has no clue on her whereabouts. Her parents are desperate to see their daughter so they make a televised appeal. On the next day, Alison sees gal’s ghost. Police has some hopes that the dead gal’s spirit may help them to locate the killer. In ‘Daniel One & Two’, - a man named Daniel is accused of attacking on his own girlfriend. He meets Alison and tries to persuade her that the attacker was another man- Daniel Two. When doctors say that Daniel is pathologically violent schizophrenic, Alison has something else in her mind.

Next episode of third season was entitled ‘Misdirection’. Here, we see that Alison gets a job at an old people’s home and on the very first day of her joining, she finds Robert’s so, Josh’s snap. She befriends Nurse Connor, who’s being tormented by one of his former patients. Then comes the ‘Sleeping with the Dead’. Season finale was entitled ‘The 7:59 Club’. In the end of the season, we see that Alison finds out that she’s being haunted by ghosts. She is soon visited by the survivors of a train crash and they want her to help them in communicating with their lost ones.

It was end to the first season and series returned with second season. But it didn’t return after the second season and fans are still in hope to watch some more episodes of ‘Afterlife’.

What Afterlife means to you?

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Okay, let’s share what Afterlife means to us. Well, simply, it’s an ITV network drama based upon Alison Mundy and Dr. Robert, the leading characters on series. Hah ha ha…

Hope, you didn’t start to think about hell/heaven after reading the first statement of the post.

Series is over after two successive seasons. Honestly, I was a huge fan of series and I never skipped even a single episode when it was on air. I loved the plot of the show and it didn’t deserve cancellation just after two seasons. First season of series was very well received by the audience and it led the way to second season…. Both seasons were good and I’ve downloaded all the episodes of series and have watched them several times.

Yesterday, when I was watching the second season finale ‘A Name Written in Water’, it reminded me once again of ‘Afterlife’ so I decided to watch all episodes of series here. Here’s my review of the second season finale-

Robert is in coma and is at the hospital. In this episode, we finally see what happens to Robert and we also come to know what Allison thinks about him. She launches a frantic search for him. The spirit of a nurse is wondering through the corridor and she has made it her mission to take care of every patient admitted to the hospital. This was an end to ‘Afterlife’- a paranormal TV drama.

Imagine, you’ve the ability to communicate with ghosts and spirits…. They come to you and share their troubles with you as well… would it be a good life for you or you’ll say ‘Ah!! Ghosts, never”. If I am given such kind of ability, I’ll really talk to ghosts and ask them to take me to their Ghost-Towns.

Well received

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Though the series was all success and definitely well received all over, still the producers decided to end the series after its second season. The series was not only appreciated by its viewers but also acclaimed great critical appreciation. It had all the elements of being a good suspense, drama, and thriller.

After Life

The critics were of the view the series was definitely promising as a mystery, despite of it using some of conventional techniques for scaring the audience. They were also of the view that one of the interesting factors of the series was Lesley Sharp, who had become in recent years television’s favorite Everywoman…though the show was scary but not gruesome. Despite of its simple plot it could hook its viewers through out.

Generally, believed that the series had taken the best of parts from The X-Files, Jonathan Creek and Most Haunted. Still the series rocked and made a good television series.

Fans of the series never wanted that the series should end. This was a disheartening decision for them and they still hope that the series would revive, with something more interesting. Whereas some were of the view that it was good decision to end the series the way they have done instead of lingering on the story line.

But all in all this was one series that was loved by all, in its short tenure.

Plot

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

The series deals with the psychic Alison Mundy and the psychology professor Robert Bridge, who debentures physic. When this professor comes in contact with Alison, he has no options except for going with her, because whatever she tells him and makes him experience, he cannot explain that with the help of science.

After Life

Dr. Robert Bridge actually comes in contact with her when he takes his students to visit her and make them belief that this is all false. But destiny had something else in store for him. During their visit, Alison makes one of his students see the spirit of his mother, which ultimately leaves her with the decision of committing a suicide. Alison also makes him comes in terms to the spirit of his dead son and helping him to move on.

Alison basically acts as a mediator between the spirits and their families, providing them relief and helping them to move on. Complete first season deals with her attempts to understand why these spirits keep coming back and haunt the humans, while the second season deals with Dr.Robert helping Allison with her mental problems and ultimately resulting in his death, because of cancer. The series was called cancelled after the second season.
